Feb 18 (Reuters) - U.S. Agriculture Department on Thursday projected U.S. farmers will plant 89.0 million acres of corn this year, up from its previous forecast of 88 million acres.

At its two-day annual outlook forum in Washington D.C., USDA forecast that 77.0 million acres will be planted with soybeans, up from its previous estimate of 76.5 million.

It projected wheat sowings at 53.8 million acres this year, down from the previous 55 million.

USDA is scheduled to release its annual prospective plantings report on March 31.
