NCSB Co-Hosts North Central Soybean Board Meeting in Iowa

Ed Anderson, Senior Director Supply and Production Systems of the North Central Soybean Board, and Henry Nguyen, Director of the National Center for Soybean Biotechnology (NCSB) co-organized and hosted a meeting on June 4, 2014, at the North Central Soybean Board (NCSRP) headquarters in Ankeny, Iowa.

The overall goal of the meeting was to look at two important areas of soybean research, drought and soybean cyst nematode, and determine how the scientists from member states in the North Central Board Region could position themselves to receive more research funding in these areas.

The group split into two smaller groups to specifically focus on what the overall research goals should be in the two research areas.  Each group formulated a list of prioritized research that should be focused on for each research topic. The two groups will follow up over the next several months by creating strategic research plans with prioritized research goals that can later be turned into Research Funding Proposals (RFPs) to apply for funding support.

Over 40 people, including researchers and soybean board members, from 9 different states participated in the discussion.  NCSB members that attended included Henry Nguyen, NCSB Director, J. Grover Shannon, NCSB Associate Director, Melissa Mitchum, Felix Fritschi, Andrew Scaboo, Tri Vuong, and Theresa Musket.  Jennifer Jones, from the United Soybean Board (USB) also attended the meeting.
